Function
1. Absorb the heat of low-temperature flue gas, reduce the exhaust temperature, reduce the exhaust loss, and save fuel.
2. Because the feed water is heated in the economizer before entering the steam drum, the heat absorption of the feed water on the heating surface is reduced, and the economizer can be used to replace part of the evaporation heating surface with high cost.
3. When the feed water temperature increases, the wall temperature difference will be reduced when it enters the steam drum, and the thermal stress will be reduced accordingly, prolonging the service life of the steam drum.
Energy-saving principle
Add a reheating step to the cycle – it raises the average temperature where heat is absorbed, and that makes the cycle more efficient.
When a drum boiler is starting up, the steam-water pipes aren’t circulating yet. That means the feed water just sits there, and the water in the economizer isn’t moving either. As the boiler fires up more and the flue gas gets hotter, the water in the economizer can easily turn to steam. If that happens, parts of the economizer might overheat.
To stop this, there’s a recirculation pipe: it runs from the drum’s main drain pipe to the economizer inlet. This keeps the water in the economizer flowing, so it doesn’t vaporize.
